Not too long ago I read a NY Times article titled, “Businesses Try to Make Money and Save the World” about the fourth sector. Read it here.
They define the fourth sector as “composed of organizations driven by both social purpose and financial promise that fall somewhere between traditional companies and charities. The term “fourth sector†derives from the fact that participants are creating hybrid organizations distinct from those operating in the government, business and nonprofit sectors. But because the types of participants vary widely and much of the activity is nascent, no single name for what is occurring has gained broad use.”
Imagine if more companies started with those values in place. The world would be a different place.
“Change the Game”
While doing some more research into the fourth sector, I came across Kaos Pilot - a new innovative school in Denmark. For more information, read about them in Ode Magazine here
I really like Kaos Pilot because they are offering a competitive entrepreneurial school for people that want to make a positive difference in society. It’s not about making more money, increasing efficiency or cutting costs, rather, it’s about using your skills to make a positive difference. Kaos Pilot combines entrepeneurship, innovation and creativity to solve the world’s problems. Reminds me about the $500B that went into Africa in another NY Times article
Mr. Mwenda argued that $500 billion in international aid over 50 years had achieved nothing in Africa and that the persistence of African poverty could be explained, in part, by aid. Charity, he said, had “distorted the incentive structure” and had persuaded the brightest Africans to work for corrupt governments. He called upon African entrepreneurs to build African businesses and the American investors in TED’s audience to finance them.”
It’s not about donating money to charities or going green. It’s about creative innovative ideas that create powerful social change. Now that’s exciting and that’s why I’m excited about launching All Day Buffet. It gives us an opportunity to get that started - linking smart people to creating powerful and meaningful change in the world. Once we realize the full potential we can make in the world, I think it will become a better place!
