Interesting article today over at Campus Progress by Mark Pike, first-year law student and close buddy of AllDayBuffet, summarizing the developing story of how AT&T went all out to assist the FBI’s illegal wiretapping program in the wake of 911 and how consumers should be weary of who’s on the other end of their new Apple gadget.
Pike writes:
“The FBI was practically flaunting their presence at AT&T, openly interviewing job candidates for the mission. The staff members left documents lying around the office that provided very specific technical details about how to split wires and tap the lines.”
Don’t worry though: he doesn’t think the news should get in the way of you and your I-phone fix:
“These Orwellian observations should not stop consumers from buying this incredible new gadget, but just realize that your Big Brother might be listening in on the other line.”
Mark is focusing in information privacy issues at William & Mary and I’m glad to see that he’s putting his new-found legal skills to good use.
Speaking of Mark and skills: right before law school he drove cross country in a car that ran only on Ethanol to encourage alternative fuel use, blogged about it, and got a lot of attention.
Oh and he produced this video, which is a solid example of the intersection of doing good and having fun:
