This might be one of my favorite TED talks. George Ayittey, a Ghanian economist, passionately discusses the “Hippos” in Africa [corrupt leaders, slow pace of growth, laziness] with the “Cheetahs” in Africa [new generation of people that are young, agile and optimistic.]
“A new breed of Africans taking their futures into their own hands.”
Reminds me of what’s going on in New Orleans. There’s a massive influx of young people moving into the city to help rebuild who won’t take “no” as an answer. Bottom-up innovation. Grassroots. Fed-up with how things are turning out so taking matters into their own hands. This is happening in a lot of places around the world. Not just Africa or New Orleans.
Seriously, take 18 minutes to hear George Ayittey speak. It will truly inspire you.
