Mac gets a little bit greener

Ah yes, yesterday was Mac’s day to take the floor–shining in that pretty white dress, the world left but to gazing in wonderment.

But technological breakthroughs and brilliant marketing developments aside, Mac’s choice to move toward greener product design and packaging with the Mac Air grabbed some attention too. Having been the target of Greenpeace for some time for using hazardous materials that in turn create hazardous e-waste, Jobs’ move may have been as much political as progressive ( but at least it’s progressive, hell the backlash even inspired a Webby Award winning site )

It has a fully recyclable aluminum case, and is “the first” to have a mercury-free display with arsenic-free glass. All the circuit boards are BFR-free and PVC-free, and the retail packaging uses 56 percent less material than the MacBook packaging.

But wait.. can we backtrack just a second to Randy Newman’s performance. As crazy as it was brilliant, but even more mind boggling, only Randy Newman could play a ranty little ditty about the cruelty of European Empires and the downfall of the US’s at a Mac Keynote and only Steve Jobs could let him.
