Need some more art in your life? Wondering what a bunch of plucky creative-types do when left to their own devices in a still-working sweater factory? Then check out The Gowanus Studio Space. And if you’re in NY, stop by the opening party tonight to get some great art and celebrate Gowanus’ newest art and design community.
Works from GSS Members will be on sale (and it’ll be affordable) -just $40-$70 - and all proceeds benefit the studio. You can preview some of the works for sale at their website: www.gowanusstudio.org.
DJ Dave Nardone will be spinnin’ some vinyl. The door charge is $7, and FREE BEER will be provided by Blue Point Brewers and Crumpler Bags.
New to the neighborhood art scene, here’s the mission:
The Gowanus Studio offers space, equipment and much-needed support to emerging designers, artists and craftspeople.
Located in the historically industrial neighborhood along the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, The Studio houses a large industrial arts workshop as well as private studio and exhibition space.By providing training, workspace, tools and resources, The Gowanus Studio hopes to encourage cross-pollination between the art and design communities; support new business and design projects; and establish an arts resource for the surrounding community.
With community-minded artists, writers, designers, woodworkers, painters, sculptors, and printmakers among their membership, the GSS should be a great lab to explore the intersection between the arts, design and the neighborhood’s industrial past. So stop by, buy some art and get into Gowanus.
