Tomorrow night, LVHRD will be holding PHTHRD II. Three competitors will create a mosaic narrative out of Polaroid pictures with the audience playing the characters in the story. Who are the three? Elizabeth Weinberg, Jonathan Harris and Joseph O. Holme.
The theme of the challenge–storytelling: see, “the art of,†“the lost art of,†“the fleeting incandescent art of.â€
Our three competitors–though not all professional photographers–are all gifted storytellers who will be using a kind of photography to create a pastiche narrative with the audience and exhibition space as characters, tack and mortar.
If we believe Tolstoy, there are only two kinds of stories: a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town. Everything from El Topo to Titanic has folks walking the path of St. Paul into the great unknown or looking sideways at a mysterious arrival (from the future? the past? an Oceanic flight?).
It’s the essential dramatic burst: how am I when I am not myself?–when you step outside the world you know, or when the arrival of a foreign body forces you to re-examine the way you live.
We’re looking forward to seeing what these three super talented people create and what the equally talented audience inspires.
Oh yeah, and in tribute to the greatest story tellers around, everyone at the event will be dressing like grandmas (who’s to say a real granny or two won’t show up though, so careful who you shove to get to the Dewar’s!)
Check out the video here and can get tickets here.
