Pangea Day

May 2nd, 2008 by Jerri Chou · No Comments

Our favorite super continent is now our favorite worldwide event. Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro, New York–wherever you are, Pangea Day will be taking place as a global event on May 10th connecting the world through 24 short films. Why?

In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it’s easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that – to help people see themselves in others – through the power of film.

A powerful idea with a powerful execution, the event was born from Jehane Noujaim’s Ted Wish to create a day in which the world came together through film. That wish is coming true starting at 18:00 GMT on May 10, 2008, when locations around the world will be linked for a live program of powerful films, live music, and visionary speakers. The entire program will be broadcast – in seven languages – to millions of people worldwide through the internet, television, and mobile phones.

Check out the map and listings to find a location near you or even host a screening for your crew. You can find the video descriptions. And keep an eye out for post-event opportunities to participate in activities that connect everyday people with extraordinary activists and organizations around the world through the Pangea Day web site, and self-organized local events.

Bringing the world together by using technology to showcase humanity–it a small world after all.
