Artists Wanted is at it again and this time, they’re making an open call to photographers with a competition that celebrates the power of the image called EXPOSURE. The goal? “EXPOSURE celebrates not only unfound talent but the strength of the image and we’ve created a competition to match its influence and power,” says Goodman. “Through our judges, sponsors and the presentation of the work, our goal is to make one photographer an overnight success.” Sound flashy? It will be. New York Times Photo Editor Patrick Witty, Supermodel and Fashion Icon Tiiu Kuik and NYC Gallery Owner David Kesting will select one photographer to have their work projected on a massive scale onto buildings in the top New York City art districts for EXPOSURE. Founders, Jason Goodman and William Etundi, Jr. have a history of creating innovative solutions to the difficulties faced by artists and Artists Wanted is dedicated to providing opportunities for emerging talent and transforming the process of breaking into the professional art world. EXPOSURE is the latest in a series of open calls for new art being presented by Artists Wanted. But this time, they’re upping the ante with the prize and glitz. In addition to the huge projection, the top photographer will be awarded a $2,008 grant, an opening party at the Leo Kesting Gallery in Manhattan, and a feature in the publication “The Annual”. The top student photographer will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the educator connected to the selected student submission will receive a $500 grant. Every photographer who submits will have their portfolio featured online in a permanent collection. To add some democracy to the competition, the public is invited to vote for their favorite portfolio. The portfolio with the most votes will get a $500 People’s Choice Award. The rules of the competition are simple: photographs are submitted online through artistswanted.org, the public votes, and the judges make the final call. You can also check out work from previous open calls and featured artists including faves like Jason Eppink’s Pixelator and clips from the last show Art Ate New York. Open Call Deadline: June 17th, 2008 Opening Event: August 9, 2008, Leo Kesting Gallery, 812 Washington Street, New York, NY
