With the rise of shady corporations like Enron and shady executives like the ones at Bear Sterns turning themselves in for fraud, the corporate world has turned into a profit-guzzling machine. It’s crazy how top executives can disassociate themselves from morals and ethics for the cash money. It’s kind of like that Milgram experiment where the subject shocked another person every time that person incorrectly answered a question. The reason for what they did it? “They were just following orders.”
That’s why we like B Corporations. Mostly because B Corporations are being measured on more than just profit in areas like environmental practices, employment practices, and whether their products are beneficial to society.
B Corporations™ are a new type of corporation that are purpose-driven and create benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
B Corporations™ are unlike traditional responsible businesses because they:* Meet comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards.
* Institutionalize stakeholder interests.
* Build collective voice though the power of a unifying brand.
Some of the corporations include Method, Nau (RIP), and Seventh Generation. Hopefully, we’ll join that list in the near future! Check it.
