From Jazz to Bounce NOLA’s music is hot fire

From Jazz capital to bounce country, New Orleans has a long history and unique burgeoning music scene. Day or night, ADB gets down to artists like 10 Ward Buck, and Sissy Rappers who carry the bounce torch for gay rappers including Katey Red among many others. Doubly inspiring are arts like Kim Roberts, a.k.a. Black Kold Madina, who started Born Hustler Records. Hailing from the Ninth Ward, she survived the storm, and even taking video that’s featured in the new documentary Trouble the Water.

There are bigger names of course, and with headliners like Nine Inch Nails, R.E.M., Stone Temple Pilots, Lil Wayne, and Lupe Fiasco this October, we’re still saving our pennies to get down to the Voodoo Music Festival.

Don’t get us wrong, we’re cultured folk, and what better on an end of summer day anyway than soulful classic and contemporary New Orleans Jazz from the likes of Soul Rebels Brass Band and Rebirth Brass Band.

And the musical culture owes a lot to organizations that foster NOLA’s musical heritage likeĀ  New Orleans Center for Creative Arts NOCCA and Tipitina’s Foundation.

I wonder if Ballzack could get a grant?
