Gustav: Storm of the Century

September 1st, 2008 by mikekarnj · No Comments

As Gustav approaches Louisiana and the city of New Orleans, we can only hope that everyone in the city has evacuated as in safety.  Nagin is calling it the “storm of the century” and his implemented a curfew in New Orleans.

Through all the craziness, we’ve noticed some amazing things over the past couple of days.  People in New Orleans have used technology to spread the word and organize themselves to collectively work together.

  • On twitter, everyone evacuating tweeted the different routes to take out of the city and which ones to stay far away from.  Crazy awesome.  Follow us on twitter for our latest updates.
  • There’s even been a ning page for alerts and information regarding Hurricane Gustav.
  • Idea Village has created a page to communicate to their network in anticipation of Gustav.  You can sign up for updates, donate, and provide resources to other entrepreneurs in New Orleans.

If another storm hits and destroys New Orleans, what will happen to the city?  Will people move back?  Will New Orleans be the same?  We’ll just have to wait and see.  We’ll be praying and crossing our fingers.
