Anyone who has ever read a book, been moved by a movie or guiltily purchased a gossip magazine understands the power of stories. Regardless of your background or culture, we all love stories. The good, the bad and the ugly fill our daily lives and we never seem to fill up on hearing about what other (often random) people are up to. The people behind Futureshifters, an online social network aimed at anyone interested in social entrepreneurship, are cooking up a feast of a story.
In a recent addition to the site, they have developed a “Stories” section in order to chronicle “A Story of a Start-Up” featuring a young social entrepreneur, Annie Wadhams, who is launching her own business called “Something Good”. Annie first developed the idea for Something Good in response to her worsening condition of fear, anxiety and hopelessness that was brought on by an “Introduction to World Affairs” course in university. She realized that she was in desperate need of something good and imagined that others were too.
Something Good’s mission is to showcase the innumerable individuals and groups working to accomplish remarkable things for the greater good of their local and global communities. Through a seven pillar structure, Something Good will not only report on the good that is happening around the world (often in response to the bad), but also will create good that will be showcased on the site.
If you’re interested in watching the weekly (3-5 minute) video journals chronicling a young social entrepreneur’s journey, please check it out at here.

Love it, Brooke. Thanks for sharing. Living in Cambodia, I feel very detached from my TV news-fed American background. Every time I return home I feel like I am watching a pessimists view on the world when I turn on the news – this and that and this bad are happening. When people here about the work I am involved with through PEPY in Cambodia, they seem so shocked that people are “out there doing good” but if the news focused more on the thousands upon thousands of amazing people out there and here and everywhere LIVING the changes they are trying to make, the news would not only highlight the good in humanity, but ideally inspire others to be a part of the changes they want to see as well. Good for Annie for changing the way we view the happenings in the world. I look forward to following along.
